Mental Stamina

- It's a skill you have to learn.

Written by Jimmy Puckett

My real introduction to mental stamina was when I attended SFAS (Special Forces Assessment and Selection Course). This program is both physically and mentally demanding but having the perfect physiques of gods alone was not going to get me through.

To make it through the course I had to reach down and grab one of my greatest assets, something you can't see -- my mental stamina. It's what separates the great from the elite, not just having raw physical ability, but knowing how to use your mind.

"Self-confidence is probably the most important mental characteristic that you need." I am sure we have all know someone that was physically ready for an event or game but fell apart when losing their self-confidence.

"If you keep saying, 'I'll never be able to do this,' before anything you do, then you won't be able to do it," "If you say something enough to yourself, you'll make it true."

Building self-confidence is a mental exercise that you can practice In time, interrupting negative thoughts and replacing them with positive ones will have a real effect on your everyday performance -- and overall outlook.

Start working now to improve your mental stamina. You may not have the time to practice eight hours a day. But building your mental stamina has a lot of benefits for your game, your career, and life in general -- and it doesn't even require a gym membership.
